Progestogen Only Pill (‘mini-pill’)

If you are currently taking this very safe form of Progestogen Only Pill e.g. Desogestrel, then it is no longer required for you to have a regular health check with the practice nurse. The doctors will review your medication annually so you can have one year supply of contraceptive pills. If you wish to discuss or change your chosen method of contraception please make a routine GP appointment.

Combined Hormonal Contraceptive Pill

If you are currently taking a Combined Hormonal Contraceptive Pill e.g. Loestrin, Rigevidon then you need to attend an annual review with the practice nurse when you’re Blood Pressure and Weight will be checked. After this appointment you will be able to collect a prescription for one year supply of pills from the reception desk. When you start your final packet at 11 months, please book a pill check appointment with the practice nurse and request a year supply of contraceptive pills. If you wish to discuss or change your chosen method of contraception please make a routine GP appointment.

Progestogen Contraceptive Injection (Depo-provera)

If you are currently using the Progestogen Contraceptive Injection e.g. Depo Provera, then it is no longer required for you to have regular weight and blood pressure checks with the practice nurse. The doctors wish to review your chosen method of contraception every 2 years. If you wish to discuss or change your chosen method of contraception before 2 years then please make a routine GP appointment. If you would like to switch to an injection that you can give to yourself at home (Sayana Press) then please discuss this with the nurse at your next appointment.

Contraceptive Implant e.g. Nexplanon

If you are currently using the Nexplanon for contraception and it is due for renewal, please make an appointment for a change of implant before the renewal date. If you have passed the renewal date, please book a telephone appointment with Dr Arun or Dr Burroughs so they can arrange for alternative contraception to be provided and an appropriate appointment for a change of implant. If you wish to discuss or change your chosen method of contraception please make a routine GP appointment.

Mirena Intrauterine System (IUS) & Copper Intrauterine Device (IUD) (‘coil’)

If you are currently using a Mirena IUS or copper IUD for contraception and it is due to be changed, then please make an appointment for a change of IUS/IUD. At the same time please book a telephone appointment for at least two weeks prior to the fitting with Dr Arun or Dr Burroughs to discuss the procedure. If you wish to discuss or change your chosen method of contraception please make a routine GP appointment.
